Matrimonial and family law practice has changed over the past 25 years. Those of us who practiced in the aftermath of 9/11 remember a different time, especially in Staten Island. The borough, once dismissed as the forgotten one, absorbed a disproportionate share of the loss that day, and the effects continue to have an impact in the area of matrimonial law.
Many of the first responders during that time were in their young 20s and 30s. Fast forward almost 25 years, and those same first responders are now retirement age, and in some cases, also facing divorce.
