The scope of injury in construction sites

While our firm practices all kinds of workers’ compensation claims, we also have expertise in handling accidents or injuries of construction workers. If you are not familiar with the construction industry, or even if you are familiar but have never suffered an injury, you may wonder why this particular area receives so much focus. The truth is that, believe it or not, construction workers face some of the highest risks of severe injuries.

According to statistics from 2012, construction workers were in the top ten most likely to suffer a nonfatal injury that prevented work without recovery. In other words, they may not be the most likely to suffer an injury but when construction workers are injured, the injury is often serious enough to take them out of action. Workers’ compensation benefits can help continue some form of income so that construction workers do not come out of their injury without any finances.

Perhaps even more alarming is that nearly 20% of the fatal injuries in 2012 were suffered by construction workers. This means that construction workers were the victims of one out of every five fatal injuries. Of those fatal injuries, nearly one-third were the result of falls. This is particularly notable for construction workers in New York, where many of our city’s tall skyscrapers demand construction workers face serious risks of fall injuries.

Construction workers face a higher risk of significant injury than many other workers, which is why workers’ compensation benefits are often more important for construction workers than other types of employees. If you work in construction and you were injured on the job, consider meeting with an attorney to help you with your workers’ compensation claim.
