August 14, 2012: Annamarie Gentile, Esq., supervising partner of the Elder Law and Estate Planning Group at Angiuli & Gentile, LLP and junior associate, Stefanie L. DeMario attended a seminar hosted by SelfHelp Community Services Inc., on the topic of Managed Long Term Care . Individuals who receive Medicare as well as home care services through Medicaid (“dual eligibles”) will soon be receiving notifications from the State explaining the shift to Medicaid Managed Long Term Care. Specifically, Staten Island residents will receive statements in December 2012.
Recipients of notices have sixty (60) days in which to choose a Managed Long Term Care provider. Each provider is different and recipients are urged to research the available options prior to enrolling with a provider as to make the transition as seamless as possible. If a recipient does not choose a provider, one is chosen for them. As disenrollment can take in excess of two (2) months, it is recommended that recipients choose wisely.
As this can be confusing time for many, Angiuli & Gentile, LLP would be happy to answer your questions about the ever changing program.
