Construction work is an essential part of growth and maintenance for any city. However, workers involved with these jobs necessarily handle heavy equipment and power tools, which means there is the potential for serious injury. Workers in New York who have been injured on the job are entitled to workers’ compensation, which can cover their expenses and lost wages. This help is available for any type of injury, whether it occurred from a forklift accident, defective power tool or any other construction site accident.
In Brooklyn, eight construction workers were injured on a construction site while performing work on a building. Some were hospitalized for their injuries. The building is currently in poor condition, and a neighbor says he warned the workers of the unstable structure before they entered it. Once inside, the workers were performing renovations on the third floor when they fell two stories down to the ground level. The men were removed from the damaged building by rescue workers a short time later.
The incident demonstrates the possibility for injuries during construction work at almost any time. Even if the men were aware of the potential dangers inside the building, it is not always easy to assess the nature of these types of risks and where they may be located.
Workplace injuries can lead to missed time from work and loss of wages, not to mention expensive medical bills. If you have been injured on the job, you should understand your rights and the workers’ compensation to which you are entitled. Some state laws and guidelines pertaining to the compensation can be tricky, so it is useful to be familiar with all of your options in order to obtain a positive result for your case.
